Central Hallway Buffet

In April 1991, we received a donation of a buffet made by the Hickory Furniture Company of Hickory, North Carolina. , from Silas Mountsier III. Silas has a wonderful home and gardens on Rutgers Place. The Mountsier-Hardie gardens are open to the public in April and September through the Garden Conservancy. The grounds have also been used for charity benefits for Nutley nonprofit organizations.

The description that was written about the buffet when it was accepted by the Historic Restoration Trust was: center part of front – slightly bowed; 4 large drawers flanked on both sides by a silver drawer at top and cabinets below.

An appraisal of the buffet was made in 1992. The appraiser “realized that the front part of the buffet was made about 1940. The back was a Victorian bed headboard made about 1900!"

The buffet is in our Central Hallway.
