Robert Elwood and Barbara Brown Kingsland have contributed many family items to the Kingsland Manor, such as pictures of Robert’s father and mother, Robert Henry and Clara Francis Sanford.

Robert Elwood Kingsland was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1924. His wife, Barbara Nancy Brown, was born in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, in 1926 and was a registered nurse. During WWII, Robert was an army medic in the European theater. They married in 1948 and raised two children, a son, Robert Steven, and a daughter, Nancy Diane. Robert Elwood passed away in Sun City West, Arizona, in October 2000 and is buried in the Crest Haven Cemetery in Clifton, New Jersey.

Robert and Barbara donated a rocking chair that belonged to Robert’s great-grandmother, Emma Cornelia Vreeland (1840 – 1940). Emma passed away just 19 days before her 100th birthday. Emma married Robert’s great-grandfather, William Cornelius Kingsland (1837 – 1931). They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in February 1931, just before William passed away in May 1931. In the Museum, we have a picture of William and Emma taken when they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. The rocker is mahogany and wicker and dates from 1860, the year of their marriage. It measures 19 inches wide by 23 inches tall (including the rockers) by 18 inches deep. Emma’s chair is on display in the Master Bedroom of the Kingsland Manor.
