Scene of Sailboats Offshore

Kingsland-Manor-water-scene-painting.jpg

In July 1978, we received a donation of four pictures that were owned by the Kingsland family from Robert Elwood Kingsland and his wife, Barbara Nancy Brown. Robert’s father was Robert Henry Kingsland. Robert Henry was born in the Delawanna section of Clifton, New Jersey, in 1893. During WWI, being over 6’ tall, Robert served in the Military Police as an army sergeant. In 1921, he married Clara Francis Sanford, who was born in Goshen, New York, in 1891. They raised two children, Robert Elwood and his sister, Henrietta.

We featured three of the pictures on another page and discovered the last picture as we were completing work on our Ballroom. The other three pictures were of a young Clara Francis Sanford, a painting of Robert Henry Kingsland, and a painting of Mrs. Clara Francis Sanford Kingsland.

This final picture of the group is a hand-tinted print in an incredibly attractive frame. The description recorded when the Trust received the print is: 25-1/2” x 19-1/2”; water scene; white and gold ornate frame; sail boats offshore.

This picture is on display in the Ballroom of the Kingsland Manor.
