June Open House Tours and Talk

In his presentation, "The Life & Times of Nutley Luminary Dr. George B. Philhower MD,” David Wilson will share his knowledge of someone who played an important role in local history.

Many folks helped to form and grow early Franklin Township, now Nutley Township, but few had the vision and energy of Dr. George Philhower. His first involvement in 1886 as a “country doctor” started a long and most complete pursuit of improving the quality of life in Nutley. He was in leadership positions at Vincent Methodist Church, Nutley Public Library, Nutley School Board, Parks Commission, medical societies, Health Commission, Nutley Memorial Parkway, and social clubs. He was a family man and an avid baseball fan, both locally and at the NY Polo Grounds.

Dr Philhower’s story is a template for community involvement that will inspire folks to join in to help their town grow and prosper through volunteer days, partnerships, donations, and cultural participation.

Come to the Kingsland Manor on Sunday, June 18th from 1 to 4 p.m. to learn how this gifted man contributed to Nutley. David Wilson, author, gardener, historian, and promoter of all things Nutley, will be giving a special presentation on Dr. George Bronson Philhower at the Kingsland Manor during our regular house tours, 1-4 p.m.

David’s presentation will be at 2 p.m. in the Ballroom, and he will be available for questions during the tour hours.

Tours are free, but donations are gratefully accepted and will be applied to our scholarship fund.

The Kingsland Manor is located at the corner of Kingsland Street and Lakeside Drive. Entry and parking are on Lakeside Drive.
